Baklava ♥

It's sweet, it's delicious, it's mouthwatering, it's wonderful and it's one of the best desserts ever. Yep, it's definitely Baklava. There are a lot of amazing traditional sweets and desserts but this is totally one of the yummiest ones. I know that there are a lot of different sorts of Baklava, this is the sort that I wanted to be similar to the Baklava we ate in Almaty/Kazakhstan. It's almost as delicious as the Baklava at home. So enjoy the pictures and try the recipe :)

Baklava

500gm Filo/Phyllo sheets
250gm melted butter
200gm crushed, chopped and ground nuts (as desired)
100gm raisins and dried dates, cut in small pieces (as desired)
cinnamon (as much as desired)

For the syrup:
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
1 cup honey

Combine nuts and raisins, mix well. Preheat oven to 180degC. Take one filo sheet, brush it with melted butter and cover with another sheet and brush with butter again. Sprinkle with nut mixture and form a roll. Place on a buttered baking sheet. Take the next filo sheet, brush with butter, cover with another filo sheet, cover with butter again, sprinkle with nut mixture, form a roll again and place on the baking sheet as well. Go on until all filo sheets are used up and your baking sheet is filled with baklava rolls. Cut the rolls as desired and bake until golden brown on the top. Meanwhile put sugar, water and honey into a saucepan and melt while stiring. Bring to a boil and let boil for about 2 minutes. Remove from heat. Take the Baklava out of the oven and pour the hot syrup over the hot Baklava. Let cool completely.  enjoy :)

Optional: Sprinkle the top with ground almonds or pistachios.

Baklava tastes just amazing, I'm going to bake it again as soon as I can.
